Rubbish

Taiwan the flip side

Call it what you like, rubbish, litter, garbage it's an eyesore and a reflection of people's contempt for their environment. Taiwan has a lot of good points but their buildings and rubbish dumping leaves much to be desired. Lunch boxes (photo above) are simply discarded complete with food contents on the roadside no doubt from a passing scooter rider, as scooter riders rarely walk. A sight that is quite common, at least in this area of Taiwan.

Further down the road years of rubbish, much of it in plastic bags, has simply been thrown down a hillside. The near vertical drop means that it is unlikely ever to be removed as access is almost impossible. The plastic bags will remain there for decades and aside from the pollution it can be a hazard to wildlife.
