It's lantern festival time but it looks like I have missed it once again this year. However having heard and read about the Tainan lantern festival, where visitors wear crash helmets to protect themselves from rockets being fired in all directions, I am not too bothered. Having experienced such stupidity in my childhood and also low flying fireworks in Hamburg Hafen during Silvester, I have seen enough. Apparently the more times you are hit by rockets during the Tainan festival the more luck you will have during the coming year. I suppose that depends on whether you survive unscathed and do not end up in hospital.
